Join new DAO, Gitcoin Quadratic Funding Round, SXSW Exhibit, ETHDenver, Gaming the Future Book, Global Meetups, and more! - Foresight Institute
HAPPENING AT FORESIGHT INSTITUTE
Join us in building a Foresight DAO to support early-stage, interdisciplinary projects for sci-fi futures that are too ambitious for legacy funders to take on. Apply here.
Support our Gitcoin quadratic funding round with a few dollar on March 9 to support our fellowship program and our tech tree project!
We launched a new book written by Foresight president Allison Duettmann, Christine Peterson, and Mark S. Miller: Gaming the Future: Technologies for Intelligent Voluntary Cooperation!
Global meetups are coming up again soon!
Foresight will be visiting SXSW later this week, hope to see you there!
LET’S START A DAO TOGETHER
Foresight lives through its community. Join us in building a Foresight DAO to support early-stage, interdisciplinary projects for sci-fi futures that are too ambitious for lgacy funders to take on.
Mainly, but not only, these are bio, nano, neurotech, computing, and space projects generated within the Foresight community, through our technical tracks, fellowships, tech trees, and competitions.
FORESIGHT
On March 13, join us at the Millennium Center for At Your Own Risk, for an evening of science meets art during SXSW! Foresight’s NFTs, which support early-stage scientific research, will be displayed at the event, which is co-hosted by VitaDao, LabDao, and the Research Collective. In addition, there’ll be a decentralized science fair, music, and an opportunity to meet like-minded friends. Tickets are still available.
We hope to see you there!
GITCOIN QUADRATIC FUNDING ROUND ON MARCH 9
On March 9, Foresight is participating in a quadratic fundraising round on Gitcoin. With Quadratic Fundraising, a matching pool is raised and then a crowdfund campaign is matched according to the QF algorithm. What makes QF unique is that the number of contributors matters more than the amount funded. This pushes power to the edges and away from whales or centralized players; truly a democratic means of crowdfunding public goods.
Foresight currently has two grants up for matching:
We would be endlessly grateful to anyone giving even just a few $ in crypto to signal to the matchers that expanding our 2022 fellowship and tech tree program is something worth supporting!
Every small amount matters A LOT.
FORESIGHT DE(SCI) at ETH DENVER
Together with SCRF and OpSci, Foresight hosted the DeSci (Decentralized Science) track at EthDenver. 7 days of exploration on how web3 can improve scientific inquiry, funding and innovation.
Take a peek at Foresight’s Tech Tree & DAO workshop here.
Take a peek at Foresight’s Crypto-economic Approaches to X-risk workshop here.
We are excited to be part of a growing DeSci community. Join our discussions on Discord! Apply here.
GLOBAL MEETUPS
We are continuing with our Global Meetups! Meet Foresight & Friends in SF, NYC, Boston, Berlin, Stockholm, London, Singapore, LA, Paris, Zurich, Seattle, Miami, Dubai, and Toronto!
Next one up will be Saturday, March 26. Apply here.
JOIN THE BOOK CLUB ON GAMING THE FUTURE
We are excited to announce the launch of Gaming the Future: Technologies for Intelligent Voluntary Cooperation!
We will now host a book club about technologies for intelligent voluntary cooperation by the authors Allison Duettmann, Mark S. Miller, and Christine Peterson, Foresight Institute. In the book club, you’ll discuss chapter by chapter live with the authors and other like minds, meet some of the keynote presenters whose seminars are featured in the sections, and cooperate on turning these technologies into action.
Visit our Substack to see the community iterate on the book – just like a good game! There are Gitcoin bounties for each chapter, which can be claimed for augmenting the ideas and technologies in the book.
Attend one (or all!) of our book club meetings, held Sundays at 11 am PT, starting on May 1, to discuss the book with our keynotes and readers. You will be receiving a free invitation soon.
We would like to thank members of our Foresight’s Intelligent Cooperation Group for shaping this book into what it is through our 2021 seminars.
WHAT WE’RE READING
Cryostasis Revival by Robert A. Freitas, Jr.
Cryonics promises to be “an ambulance to the future.”
But up until now, there’s no clear description of the technologies needed to revive human patients from cryostasis. In his new technical book, Cryostasis Revival, Robert A Freitas, Jr., a 2009 Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology for Theory, presents the first comprehensive conceptual protocol for human revival from cryopreservation using medical nanorobots. To learn more, you can download the book here.
Do you want to join a thriving global community around advancing bio, nano, neurotech, computing and space technologies for futures of existential hope?
Become a supporting member (also accepting crypto, find more coins on our donation page) to set bounties, fund fellows, and co-design the program with us. All info on our website.
