HAPPENING AT FORESIGHT INSTITUTE
May is coming to an end, and we would like to share with you some of what we have been working on in the past month!
We’ve welcomed David Friedman, Kate Sills, and Anders Sandberg amongst others to our ongoing Gaming The Future Book Club, and there’s still time left to join the remaining meetings!
New seminar summaries have been produced in our groups on Biotech & Health Extension, Intelligent Cooperation, Molecular Machines and Neurotech.
New positions open! Foresight is looking to fill our Science Communicator role, and ZCash Media is seeking writers for an Educational Tech Docu-series on Cryptocurrency.
Foresight’s 2022 Feynman nominations are open!
FLI’s Worldbuilding Contest finalists have been announced, and are open for audience input.
Events: Foresight’s annual Biotech Workshop took place, and you can also find us at NFT Berlin this week.
Longevity, Molecular Machines, Neurotech, Space, Crypto Tech Trees!
As explained here (post), and here (video), Foresight’s tech tree architects are mapping tech trees to drive long-term progress in longevity, neurotech, nanotech, computing, and space. Domain experts submit challenges to make progress in their node of the tech tree. We pay bounties for researchers to submit answers and project proposals. If they’re good, we’ll get in touch to explore a collaboration.
Bounties are active in the following areas:
Longevity: Watch the Longevity Tech Tree Update, by Aaron King.
Dietary Control: Fasting based on biomarker state changes
Autophagy: Measuring autophagy in the body
Advanced Glycation Endproducts: Accumulation of AGE’s in the body over time
Neurotech: Watch the Neurotech Tech Tree Update, by Maryna Polyakova.
Biomarkers: Translation of neuromarkers from lab to mobile devices
Neuroengineering: Charging batteries for implants using RF
Intelligent Cooperation: Watch the Intelligent Cooperation Tech Tree Update, by Yingtong Lai.
Privacy: Improving private Smart Contracts
Utility NFTs: Sustainable communities using NFT’s
Nanotech: Watch the Nanotech Tech Tree Update, by Yuanning Feng.
Mechanisorption: Energy storage/carbon capture
Nanomaterials: Making non-silicon based nanomaterials to revolutionize the chip industry
Nanoparticles: Fully control methods of assembly and manipulation of nanoparticles
Space: Watch the Space Tech Tree Update, by Romain Fonteyne.
Asteroid Mining: Get information on composition of asteroids
Terraforming: Creating large mirrors for thermal control
Terraforming: Creating super greenhouse gases from carbon and fluorine
Intelligent Cooperation Book Club!
We’re four weeks into our weekly book club on Gaming the Future: Technologies for Intelligent Voluntary Cooperation with a wonderful selection of guest speakers! We discuss how cryptocommerce enables decentralized, secure cooperation across humans – and AIs – to unlock Paretotropian futures powered by high technology.
We hope you improve on the ideas, either by joining our weekly book club meetings, or by contributing to our chapter-specific Gitcoin bounties!
Check out the recordings of the meetings that have taken place so far here in the Book Club playlist, and make sure to join us for these upcoming meetings:
Sunday, May 29: Primavera De Filippi, Coala, Arthur Breitman, Tezos
Sunday, June 5: David Brin, Author of Transparent Society
Sunday, June 12: Gernot Heiser, SeL4
Sunday, June 19: Trent McConaghy, Ocean Protocol
Sunday, June 26: Stuart Armstrong, Future of Humanity Institute, Robin Hanson, George Mason University
Feynman Prize Nominations are Open!
Every year Foresight awards the Feynman Prize to prominent researchers within nanotech. These Foresight prizes are given in honor of Richard P. Feynman who, in 1959, gave a visionary talk at Caltech in which he suggested that “the problems of chemistry and biology can be greatly helped if our ability to see what we are doing, and to do things on an atomic level, is ultimately developed — a development which I think cannot be avoided.”
Nominations are now open for this year’s award. Please nominate yourself or someone you think should be awarded here.
New Seminar Summaries!
The meetings from our Biotech & Health Extension, Intelligent Cooperation, Molecular Machines and Neurotech groups this month are available and can all be found here:
J. Lyding & L. Grill | Silicon-Based Nanotechnology & Manipulating Single Molecules on Surfaces
Chris Berg, Oliver Sauter | Cryptopaleoinstutionality, Memex, Regen
Job postings!
Science Communicator: Foresight is looking for a great science communicator to help our growing audience understand what our fellows and researchers are working on. Someone who can translate the technical work they do and share it with the public.
Find more information on the role here. We are looking forward to hearing from you!
Educational Writer: ZCash Media is seeking writers for an Educational Docu-series on Cryptocurrency.
Zcash Media’s educational series has already begun airing.

Community Updates
The Future of Life Institute’s Worldbuilding Contest
FLI’s Worldbuilding contest has called earlier this year for teams to envision positive futures including AI. You can now explore the worlds of the 20 finalists selected by the judges (one of the judges being Foresight Institute’s president Allison Duettmann). What kinds of futures do you want? FLI is seeking audience input for each world. Winners will be announced in late June.
Fellow Updates
The Foresight Fellowship is a one-year program committed to giving change-makers the support to accelerate their bold ideas into the future. Here’s what our fellows have been up to.
Nikolina Lauc, GlycanAge. The the GlycanAge team has been designing a take home blood test, MenoAge, which has the potential to diagnose perimenopause and menopause. This announcement followed after a study that was led by a team of researchers from GlycanAge’s parent company, Genos Glycoscience Research Laboratory. Find more information here.
Tatyana Dobreva – CEO/Co-founder of ImYoo. ImYoo is a d2c single-cell transcriptomics company that aims to deliver personalized, biology-driven health insights by connecting people with similar immune profiles to share their health journeys. They recently launched a new website www.imyoo.health!
Nell Watson is an interdisciplinary researcher in emerging technologies such as machine vision and A.I. She recently founded a new IEEE Working Group to help tackle confusion and misapprehension about whether one is dealing with a human being or an AI. Find more information here.
